About Us

Beauty in the Dissonance is the dreamericana musical duo of singer/songwriter Laura Katie and award-winning singer/songwriter Eric Scott Klein.  Their soon-to-be-released debut album resonates at the intersection of Americana and Dream Pop.

Produced by platinum record producer Barb Morrison (Blondie, Rufus Wainwright), engineered by a Grammy Award-Winning team of Jeremy Kinney (FLETCHER)  and Dan Malsch (Ghost, Gojira, Bowling for Soup) it was mastered by multiple Grammy Winner Chris Gehringer (Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Harry Styles, Lady Gaga, Lizzo, Rihanna, Twenty One Pilots, Lana Del Rey, Jason Mraz, Florence and The Machine, Bruno Mars) and mixed by Jonathan Jetter (American Authors, Dean Lewis, Loote, CYRIL, James TW).

A lush performance which reweaves the tapestry of Americana with a needle dipped in nostalgia and inked in Dream Pop modernity, their debut EP evokes echoes of Laurel Canyon’s golden age while speaking honestly to the heartbreak and hope of now.

Based in NYC, Beauty in the Dissonance sings songs that explore stories of love, loss, and life over time. Together, or when harmonizing from across a divide, Laura Katie and Eric summon a rare alchemy: the kind of sonic vulnerability that doesn't just invite you in, it asks you to stay awhile.

Decades after meeting at college, Laura Katie and Eric connected again to sing together and compose songs about the time spent living, and the meaning behind shared thoughts, feelings, and the ghosts of their past. Beginning with Another Fall, Beauty in the Dissonance has a sound that is timeless. The themes are universal, but the lyrics and music are deeply rooted in their artistic, personal, and familial experiences. They aim directly into the heart of life and the haunting passing of time.

Its beauty and its dissonance. However, you define it.

Laura Katie

Laura Katie of the dreamericana duo Beauty in the Dissonance was raised in a house where music wasn’t just background noise, it was the heartbeat of family life and a means of connection. She began performing at the age of six alongside her parents and sister, learning early on that music could connect people in ways words sometimes couldn’t. Laura’s passion led her to study vocal performance at Carnegie Mellon University and eventually brought her to New York City. She performed in national tours and regional theaters as Carrie in Cameron Mackintosh’s revival of Carousel with Patrick Wilson, and Belle in a national tour of Beauty and the Beast, sharing the stage with Patrick Page and Paige Davis.

After stepping away from the spotlight to raise her two children, Laura felt a pull back to the music that had shaped her. She has taught voice at the university level, sharing her experience and passion with the next generation of performers. Returning to her musical roots feels like coming home and she knows her father, who was such a formative part of her early musical life and has since passed on, would be deeply proud to see her singing again

Eric Scott Klein

“Lead vocalist Eric Klein is simply stunning as he moves effortlessly between smooth subtlety….and grand and soaring…”

Eric Scott Klein is a musical storyteller. Born in Fair Lawn, NJ, and a resident of Easton, PA, Eric is a singer/songwriter in the dreamericana duo Beauty in the Dissonance. He is also a singer/songwriter in award award-winning progressive rock band Days Before Tomorrow and a performer/MC and vocal section leader of Theatre Rock: A Tribute to Broadway Rock Musicals. Over his professional touring career, Eric has sung at The World Cup, and played over 300 shows per year multiple times. He attended conservatories at Carnegie-Mellon University and The Manhattan School of Music for voice, and studied privately with vocal guru Norma Garbo (Taylor Swift, Scissor Sisters). He has shared the stage with artists ranging from The Pointer Sisters to Anthrax, Joan Jett to Ace Frehley and .38 Special.

Eric weaves personal stories through his music and lyrics. He approached co-writing with Laura Katie for Beauty in the Dissonance with the hope of creating intimate songs and scenes of life that reverberate via sharing of emotions long past when the final notes diminish. Eric’s alter ego has a PhD in community college leadership, and both parts are in long-term recovery. He is known to sing harmony to anything while driving and has a deep love for modern opera and musicals.
